BLINDS CORDS AND CHILD SAFETY
A toddler who may stand up in his cot could wrap a blind or curtain cord around his neck if it is within reach and may not understand the consequences of sitting down or climbing out of the cot. Unfortunately the consequences have proven to be fatal. Blind cords that are within reach of young children must be fitted with a cord restraining device or a cleat.
The cords from venetian blinds should be wrapped around a cleat and the loops from holland blinds and verticals must be fitted with a ‘cordsafe’ device fixed to the window reveal or architrave.
What can you do to prevent this potentially tragic occurrence in your home?
• Purchase window furnishings that don’t have cords. Plantation Shutters don’t have cords.
• We can make Vertical Blinds operated by a wand, and Holland Blinds can be motorised. If none of these options suit, then speak with our helpful staff.
• Ensure that existing blind and curtain cords are properly restrained.
• Place your child’s cot away from the window and move furniture away from windows that a child can climb to reach the cords
